About the Alzheimer's Association

The Alzheimer's Association® is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Founded in 1980 by a group of family caregivers and individuals interested in research, the Association includes our home office in Chicago, a public policy office in Washington, D.C. and a presence in communities across the country.

Worldwide, more than 55 million people are living with dementia. In the United States alone, more than 7 million are living with Alzheimer’s, and nearly 13 million are providing unpaid care. The Association addresses this crisis by providing education and support to the millions who face dementia every day, while advancing critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.

We provide care and support to all those facing Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

  • Our free 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), staffed by master's-level dementia experts, provides confidential support and information to all those affected in over 200 languages.
  • Our website, alz.org, is a rich resource designed to inform and educate multiple audiences, including those living with the disease, caregivers and professional health care providers.
  • We conduct online and face-to-face support groups and education programs in communities nationwide, while ensuring these services reach underserved populations. ALZConnected®, a free online community, offers those affected by dementia another place to share support and information.
  • We offer a suite of interactive online tools to help people living with dementia and their caregivers navigate the journey after diagnosis and locate a wide variety of resources in their area. ALZNavigator™ allows users to create customized action plans after a diagnosis. The Alzheimer’s Association & AARP Community Resource Finder is a comprehensive database of dementia and aging-related resources that makes it easy for families to find local programs and services.
  • We provide culturally relevant resources to support those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, working alongside partner organizations to strengthen our outreach to every community.
  • To help individuals receive an accurate and timely diagnosis, and to improve access to care and treatment options, we provide tools for clinicians, including continuing medical education and a cognitive assessment toolkit.

We drive research toward treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.

  • As the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, the Alzheimer's Association currently has $490 million in active and committed funding in more than 1,220 projects in 59 countries. We’ve entered an exciting era of Alzheimer’s treatment, with FDA-approved drugs that can change the course of Alzheimer’s. Through the Association’s investment in promising research, we are accelerating innovation to advance and diversify the treatment pipeline, building upon these recent victories.
  • We advance the field by convening the annual Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC®), the world’s largest and most influential forum for the dementia research community.
  • We play a key role in increasing knowledge about prevention and risk reduction. The Association-funded U.S. POINTER study announced findings in 2025 that two lifestyle interventions targeting a combination of physical activity, improving nutrition, cognitive and social challenge, and health monitoring improved cognition in older adults at risk of cognitive decline.
  • We accelerate research through TrialMatch®, a free clinical studies matching service for people living with the disease, caregivers and healthy volunteers.

We advocate to improve the lives of all those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

  • The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voice for dementia advocacy, working at the federal and state levels to garner the support our movement needs.
  • Working with the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM), a separately incorporated advocacy affiliate of the Alzheimer’s Association, we assemble and train a nationwide network of advocates who engage elected officials.
  • We relentlessly pursue equitable access to treatment, calling on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and private payers to provide full and unrestricted coverage for FDA-approved Alzheimer’s drugs.
  • We help pass landmark legislation such as the National Alzheimer’s Project Act, which mandated the creation of a national plan to fight Alzheimer’s and coordinates efforts to prevent and effectively treat the disease by 2025.
  • We advance commitment to funding from the federal government. Annual federal Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is as much as $3.8 billion. The Alzheimer’s Association, AIM and our advocates have driven bipartisan support for this rapid increase.
  • We work with bipartisan congressional champions to introduce legislation — such as the NAPA Reauthorization Act and the Alzheimer's Accountability and Investment Act, that renew the nation's commitment to the fight against Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
  • We fight for caregivers, working with Congress on important legislation such as the bipartisan Credit for Caring Act, which is aimed at providing much-needed financial relief to family caregivers nationwide, including those caring for people living with Alzheimer's and other dementia.

Montgomery County Food Bank Rotarians, family, co-workers, neighbors are needed to help in the Produce Rescue Center. The Montgomery County Food Bank feeds 1,000 of our fellow residents each day. All people interested must set up a personal account and sign the appropriate forms: FROM FOOD BANK: In this shift, you will help us sort and organize refrigerated products to get them ready for distribution to those in need in Montgomery County. Produce Rescue volunteers save tons of produce every year, helping to provide high-nutrition fruits and vegetables to our neighbors in need and keeping it out of the landfills. Every day can be a different experience depending on the inventory supply or demand, but will include either food sorting or building family boxes and senior/kids produce bags. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. This is a great opportunity to have fun (and stay cool) while you do GOOD! TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Please review our Code of Conduct Our Produce Rescue Center is a refrigerated room kept at about 45 degrees. Volunteers should bring their own coat, gloves, and hat/warm headwear. Clean out your pantry before your shift! "The Lunch Bunch" (AKA They Slept Through the Monthly Breakfast Meeting Bunch)

The Rotary Club of The Woodlands has been meeting every Thursday 12pm - 1pm for many, many years.  There's a great core group of Rotarians who would like to continue that tradition. *

This Optional "Lunch Bunch" is not a regular meeting, it's just a social event/lunch alternative for a total of 10 (including host) of current Rotary Club of The Woodlands Members Only, Sign Up is Required (see below).    The lunch is hosted by a Woodlands Country Club member and each person attending is responsible for purchasing their own meal (the food is not included in the dues).  The host will change each month, and his/her contact information will be shared.  The current Board of Directors is hopeful this additional opportunity to meet will allow for more meeting flexibilty for all members.

* A little history, in 2025-26 the President of The Rotary Club of The Woodlands, Cindy Heiser, wanted to share an alternative opportunity to visit a Rotary Club meeting besides a Thursday Luncheon (which some members find hard to attend) or first Tuesday Evening Rotary After Hours (RAH) meeting.  Once a month, normally the last Thursday of the Month, a regular meeting is held at Black Walnut to allow for members and potential members an alternative.  Matt Bottorff, the 2026-27 President is continuing the tradition.

Meetings Open to Guests:

  • Regular Thursday Luncheons ($30 Guest Luncheon Fee)
  • Rotary After Hours Evening Events (NO Fee), and
  • Fourth Thursday Breakfast Networking Meetings ($15 Guest Breakfast Fee)

All information about the meeting dates and locations is presented on the front page of www.woodlandsrotary.org
