We need for anyone thinking about buying a table or a seat to please fill out the forms on the Rotary website and send it in as soon as possible. For more information on the event or to purchased tickets please email Melissa Ray at raym01@mrayinsurance.com.

Thank you to those that have donated wine or money to the Wine Pull at the event. We have collected 26 bottles of wine, and $475.00 to buy 16-20 more.  Our Goal is 200 bottles of wine so as you can see we are in need of several more. Please remember to bring 1 or 2 bottles of wine to the Thursday meetings or to RAH within the next two weeks.

The Committee is collecting several Great Live and Silent auction items, however we are still in  need of several more. If your company or someone you do business with would be interested in donating and item please contact Michele Flory at michele@micheleflory.com and she will be glad to pick up the item/s or answer any questions.

Let’s all remember we are Honoring Michael and Vicki Richmond for their major contributions to our community throughout the past 35 plus years. Let’s show our appreciation by making this a successful event!

And let’s all remember all proceeds will be given to Rotary House to help those seeking treatments in one of the 5 hospitals in TW have a secure and affordable place to stay during their treatments.

Rotary in Focus 2019
The work of Rotary begins in the community, and every community has its own unique needs and concerns. While we serve in countless ways, we’ve focused our efforts in six key areas to maximize our impact. These areas encompass some of the world’s most critical and widespread humanitarian needs, and we have a proven record of success in addressing them:
  • Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Water and sanitation
  • Maternal and child health
  • Basic education and literacy
  • Economic and community development

Rotary members planning new service projects are encouraged to consider these areas and the many opportunities for innovative projects within them. The attached publication introduces each area and suggests how Rotary clubs and districts and their service partners can address these needs both locally and internationally.

Polio Eradication Picture
BAD NEWS --Two new (2018) Wild Polio Cases Reported This Week.
What is that Polio Eradication Picture?   Rotarians Go Door-To-Door in Jhuggis - Pakistan - National Immunization Days - utilizing 48,000 vaccination teams targeting 19.1 million children to be vaccinated with the Oral Polio Vaccine - started January 21, 2019 and ran through January 25.  This picture from 1/21/19 shows Rotarians going "door to door" to make sure every child is reached.  The goal is a Polio-Free Pakistan!

Zero is the Magic Number!   The three-year Countdown to History starts after the final Wild Polio case. Today, we restart the count since the report of the most recent Wild Polio case. Rotary is committed to raise $50 Million (including Rotarian, public, and DDF donations) to be matched by $100 mil from the Gates Foundation - for each of the next two years - for a total of $300 million for the Global Polio Eradication effort.

Vaccine Derived Polio Cases - Papua New Guinea, Kenya, SYRIA, SOMALIA, Niger, Nigeria, Mozambique, & DRC - Vaccine Derived Polio Cases reported in 2019: Papua New Guinea - 0 (26 in 2018).  (No new cases this week), Nigeria - 0 (34 in 2018).  (One new 2018 case & 8 Polio Positive samples this week), Niger - 0 (9 in 2018).  (No new cases reported this week), Somalia - 0 (13 in 2018).  (No new cases this week), DRC - 0 (20 in 2018).  (No new cases this week).  Mozambique - 0 (1 in 2018) (One new case reported this week) One hundred and three Vaccine Derived Polio cases were reported in 2018.

To Succeed by 2023 - The Chairs of the main independent, advisory and oversight committees of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have issued an impassioned plea to everyone involved in the Global Polio Eradication Effort to excel in their roles and to dedicate themselves to one clear objective:  to reach that very last child with the Polio vaccine, with the goal of global certification of Polio eradication by 2023!

Rotary After Hours- Come Join Us
Members of Rotary After Hours (RAH) are part of The Woodlands Rotary Club. The only difference is that they meet after hours from 5:00 - 6:15 pm the first and third Tuesday of the month. RAH is ideal for professionals that may not be able to attend the  our regular  Rotarian luncheons meetings.  Ideal members are community professionals that are highly motivated to be service oriented in giving back to the community with Rotary Club of The Woodlands. If you now someone who is interested in joining, invite them to our next RAH Meeting!

RAH Meetings are  also open to all Rotarians. So come out to have some fun. For Meeting Locations, visit our Club Calendar or  list of Upcoming Events on the web site.
How Can I Best Communicate My Event Information?
ROTARY EVENT CHAIRS,  the best way to make certain your EVENT  information is included in our Club Calendar, List of Upcoming Events and in our Monthly Newsletter (The Link), is to provide the Web Master the needed information via use of our Event Form. This form can be found in the Calandar Section of our Web Site (https://woodlandsrotary.org/sitepage/calender). In addition, you may also send an email to Club Members but this will have a shorter shelf life.

In order to be included in our Monthly Newsletter, The Link, please provide your Event information to Mike Bass before the last Friday of the month.
Rotary  House Is Making An Impact!

We are pleased to announce that our apartments are fully occupied with a waiting List. Over the last several months we have been 80% occupied. We are extremely excited to see so much interest in such  a short of time. To date, we have provided 204 days of lodging to patients undergoing extended treatment and their families at our Medical Center, This  represents over $30,000 in direct benefits to these patients and families. Our patients have included 9 infants and children plus two adult cancer patients. These patients have come from as far away as St Augustine, Fla.  and as near as Huntsville, Texas. We are currently evaluating our funding strategy to see if we can add a third apartment. What do you think?

We are also excited to announce our new web site where you can learn more www.rotaryhousetw.org

The Hospitality Committee could use more people to check in on our families and make sure they get the support they need to continue caring for their babies.  If you are interested in doing this and/or have an idea, contact Jon Sanderson at jon.sanderson@primelending.com.
