Rotary’s World-wide 2018-19 Rotary Year Polio Fundraising Goal is
$50 Million – To be Matched $2 for $1 by the Gates Foundation
What is that Polio Eradication Picture?A Polio-Free India! - Eradicating Polio in India was a feat of dedication, commitment and doubling down on immunization activities. Given India’s vast population, tropical climate, and other environmental challenges, it would be easy to imagine that if Polio couldn’t be stopped, India would be the place to fail. After all, India constituted over 60% of all global Polio cases as recently as 2009. However, in 2014, India was officially declared Polio-free, along with the rest of the South-East Asia Region. Thanks to the singular commitment of the Indian Government at all levels, partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, notably WHO, Rotary International and UNICEF, Polio was tackled head-on. India has not had a case single case of Wild Polio virus since 2011. Success in India really changed the game, and now serves as an example that eradication of Polio is indeed possible when the world marshals political will and commits adequate resources to the cause that affects everybody worldwide..
The Rotary Foundation receives highest rating!
For the 11th straight year, The Rotary Foundation has received a four-star rating, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator.
Zero is the Magic Number! The three year Countdown to History starts after the final Wild Polio case. Today, we count two weeks since the report of the most recent Wild Polio case. Rotary is committed to raise $50 Million (including Rotarian, public, and DDF donations) to be matched by $100 mil from the Gates Foundation - for each of the next two years - for a total of $300 million for the Global Polio Eradication effort.

We are pleased to announce that our apartments are fully occupied with a waiting List. Over the last several months we have been 80% occupied. We are extremely excited to see so much interest in such a short of time. To date, we have provided 204 days of lodging to patients undergoing extended treatment and their families at our Medical Center, This represents over $30,000 in direct benefits to these patients and families. Our patients have included 9 infants and children plus two adult cancer patients. These patients have come from as far away as St Augustine, Fla. and as near as Huntsville, Texas. We are currently evaluating our funding strategy to see if we can add a third apartment. What do you think?
We are also excited to announce our new web site where you can learn more www.rotaryhousetw.org
The Hospitality Committee could use more people to check in on our families and make sure they get the support they need to continue caring for their babies. If you are interested in doing this and/or have an idea, contact Jon Sanderson at jon.sanderson@primelending.com.
