Today at lunch, we heard from Claudia Gee Vassar, President of the new Houston Botanic Garden. This new Garden is  under development on on 120 acres near Sims Bayou. The Garden will  eventually include plants from all over the world, including  a 2-acer community garden as well. On May 19, hosted its first community event with the creation of its tree farm. Eventually, over 1,100 trees will be planted on the rolling hills of this former golf course. The goals of this non-profit organization are to:
  • Provide an oasis of contemplation, learning, inspiration and research
  • Enrich people's lives through outstanding displays and programs
  • Serve as a  model for sustainability
  • Inspire people to become stewards of our environment
